Wildcats grab two easy wins

BURKBURNETT – ACU outfielder Tiana Tuinei tied the single-game record for hits in a game Saturday afternoon as she helped the Wildcats to a sweep of two games in the Holliday Inn at the Falls / MSU Invitational.

The Wildcats knocked off Arkasas Tech and Incarnate Word by the scores of 13-2 and 10-3, respectively, at Burkburnett High School to improve to 13-11 on the season.  ACU will wrap up play in the tournament Sunday with a doubleheader against Fort Hays State (1 p.m.) and St. Edward's (3 p.m.).

Tuinei was 5 for 5 with one RBI in the win over Incarnate Word to tie several former Wildcats for the single-game hits record.  Tuinei three hits in the day's first win over Arkansas Tech to give her seven hits and three RBI in the two games.

In the second game, the Wildcats scored single runs in the second, third and fourth innings to take a 3-1 lead before blowing the game open with four runs in the fifth and three more in the seventh.

In the fifth, Brianna Fowlkes, Kara Stutesman and Ashley Calles each had RBI doubles to help the Wildcats pull away.  ACU took advantage of an error in the seventh to score two unearned runs to finish off the Cardinals.

Shelby Hall (4-7) went the distance in the circle to pick up the win for the Wildcats.  Hall scattered eight hits over seven innings, but didn't walk a batter en route to the complete game.

In the first game on Saturday, the Wildcats pounded out 17 hits against Arkansas Tech, led by three hits apiece from Megan Brigance and Candice Miller.  Missy Mendoza, Tuinei, Valentina Nabayan and Calles each had two hits for the Wildcats.

ACU scored four runs in the first, three in the second, three in the fifth and three in the sixth to take the win.  Tuinei, Miler, Calles and Brianna Fowlkes each had two RBI in the win for ACU.

Brittany Rexroat went the distance for the Wildcats to pick up the victory.  She scattered six hits over six innings and gave up just two walks in the game that was stopped after six innings because of the run rule.
