Wildcats Finish Sweep of Zias

PORTALES, N.M. – Missy Mendoza recorded eight hits as the Wildcat offense blasted 29 hits to finish a three-game sweep of Eastern New Mexico on Saturday winning game one, 11-4, before taking out the Zias, 17-2 in five innings via run rule.
The Wildcats improved to 17-13 on the season and 3-0 to open the Lone Star Conference slate. Eastern New Mexico fell to 5-18 on the season and 0-3 in league play. ACU will return home next weekend to continue conference play as they host No. 6 West Texas A&M.
ACU jumped on the Zias with a run in the top of the first inning on a hit and took advantage of two ENMU errors. The Wildcats would plate three more runs in the second while two RBIs came off a Sarah Martinez single to center.
The Wildcat offense would put the game out of reach in the fifth inning with three more runs to take a 7-1 lead. A Megan Brigance home run in the sixth would extend the Wildcats lead to 8-3 and for insurance ACU would tally three more runs in the seventh.
Brittany Rexroat went the distance for the win scattering eight hits while striking out 3 and walking none.
Along with Brigance's homer, Mendoza hit a two-run home run in the three-run fifth for ACU.
In the night cap the Wildcats' bats continued to stay red hot as they exploded for a 10 run first inning. ACU plated 10 runs on seven hits to put the game out of reach early.
Shelby Hall would go only two innings and allowed the only two ENMU runs coming in the bottom of the second.
ACU would go on to score in every inning taking a 17-2 win in five innings due to the run rule.
Game two was highlighted by another 4-for-5 performance from Missy Mendoza who scored twice with three RBIs. Three more Wildcats finished with multiple hits as Candice Miller, Ashley Calles, and Ashley Nolan each recorded a pair.
The Wildcats open their LSC series with sixth-ranked West Texas A&M on Friday with a double-head starting at 5 p.m. Saturday's series finale will start at 1 p.m. from Wells Field.
