Wildcats drop two to Rattlers

SAN ANTONIO – The ACU Wildcats dropped a pair of non-conference softball games Saturday, losing to St. Mary's by the scores of 7-4 and 5-0 at the St. Mary's Softball Field.

The losses drop the Wildcats to 8-10 on the season.  ACU will be back in action Sunday with a doubleheader at St. Edward's.

In the first game, ACU led 4-3 before giving up four runs in the bottom of the sixth inning.  All-America catcher Kelly Baker had the biggest hit in the inning with the tie-breaking three-run home run.

That blast made a loser of relief pitcher Shelby Hall, who gave up four runs on three hits in two innings of work.

ACU was led in the game by leadoff hitter Sarah Martinez, who was 2 for 4 with a two-run home run in the fourth, and first baseman Candice Miller, who was 2 for 4 with a two-run triple in the fourth.

In the nightcap, the Wildcats were limited to three hits by Emily Brittain, who struck out six ACU batters in seven innings of work.  Freshman Peyton Mosley gave up nine hits and five runs in three innings to take the loss for the Wildcats.
