ACU Closes Shootout with 2 Wins

DURANT, Okla. – Brittany Rexroat and Peyton Mosely both picked up wins for the Wildcat softball team on Sunday afternoon as ACU downed Newman University, 8-3, and knocked off Central Missouri, 5-4, in women's softball action at the South Central Region Shootout at the Durant Multi-Sports Complex.
In game one ACU quickly jumped out on the Jennies in the first inning when Sarah Martinez blasted a homerun to right giving the Wildcats a, 1-0 lead. 
The Wildcats would add two more runs in the second inning after Ashley Nolan was walked with the bases loaded scoring Bailey Watkins. Missy Mendoza would follow up Nolan's RBI singling through the left side for her two RBIs and one of her two hits on the day.
UCM would pull within one run as they added three runs in the fourth; however the Wildcats would extend the lead back to two when Nolan singled scoring Tiana Tuieni.
The Jennies would score a single run in the top half of the seventh, but Shelby Hall would close out UCM for the save and an ACU win.
Mosely went 3.1 innings scattering six hits and responsible for all three runs in the fourth. She also struck out two and walked three. 
Hall pitched 3.2 innings in relief allowing only two hits while walking none and striking out one.
In the tournament's final action ACU knocked off Newman, 8-3, behind a big fifth inning where the Wildcats were able to bat around scoring six runs on four hits.
Ashley Calles would single and steal second to lead off the top half of the fifth inning. Nolan, Mendoza, and Megan Brigance would all single in the inning and score as well as the Wildcats built a, 6-0, lead.
Brigance would hit a solo shot in the seventh to extend the ACU lead and Kara Stutesman would single and score when Brianna Fowlkes drove her home. 
Brittany Rexroat would pick up the win and Shelby Hall added her second save of the day coming in to close out the Jets in the seventh. Rexroat was solid in the circle for the Wildcats as she struck out eight while walking four in six innings of work.
The Wildcats return home this week for non-conference Tuesday double-header against No. 12 Midwestern State. First pitch from Wells Field is set for 1 p.m.
