ACU Knocks Off Cameron & TWU

ABILENE – After two outstanding pitching performances on Sunday the Wildcats picked up two wins on the final day of the Whitten Inn Classic. Shelby Hall pitched ACU to a, 6-3, win over Texas Woman's while Peyton Mosely helped the Wildcats close out Cameron, 5-2 in the nightcap at Wells Field.
 Game One
In game one the Wildcats got an outstanding pitching performance from Shelby Hall who picked up her first win of the season. Hall scattered seven hits in a complete game effort allowing only three runs and striking out four.
Both pitchers were solid as ACU took a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the first without recording a hit. Each side would lock down as the neither team would score until the bottom of the sixth when ACU added four runs.
Great base running from the Wildcats put two runners in scoring position when Brianna Fowlkes singled home Kaylee Crozier who had ran for Valentina Nabanyan. Catcher Erin Gilliland continued to swing a hot bat as she drilled a double off the wall in right scoring Calles and Smith, and would score two batters later when Tiana Tuinei would single her home.
The Pioneers would get a home run from Tiffany Wise in the top of the sixth, but Hall would get two ground balls and a strike out to close out the win.
Game Two
In the night cap ACU would get another stellar pitching performance, this time from freshman Peyton Mosely who also picked up her first win. Mosely went the distance scattering seven hits allowing two runs, only one of which was earned, striking out seven.
The Wildcats would jump on the board early to tally a run in the first, and would add three more in the third inning when Nabanyan blasted her third homer of the season. Nabanyan's homerun over the centerfield fence put ACU up 4-0.
Cameron would get two of those runs back when Kelsey Hebert homered to make the score 4-2, however the Wildcats would tough.
ACU would add one more insurance run in the sixth when Sarah Martinez pulled her first homerun of the season over the wall in right. That would prove enough for Mosely who shut down the Aggies in the seventh en route a, 5-2 victory.
ACU improves to 4-4 on the season after going 3-1 in the Whitten Inn Classic. The Wildcats will travel to Oklahoma next weekend in Durant, Oklahoma for the South Central Regional Crossover.
