SAN ANTONIO – Former ACU offensive lineman Trevis Turner has been selected to play in the 4th annual NFLPA all-star game in San Antonio.
The NFLPA game is the game that was formerly known as the Texas vs. The Nation and was played in El Paso in its first three years of existence. In 2008, former Wildcat wide receiver Johnny Knox scored a touchdown while playing on the Texas team alongside former ACU teammate Bernard Scott.
Turner will be joined on the Texas team by familiar names such as former Abilene High and Texas Tech quarterback Taylor Potts, Baylor running back Jay Finley, West Texas A&M wide receiver Stephen Burton and TCU center Jake Kirkpatrick.
The Nation team will feature North Carolina quarterback TJ Yates and Florida offensive lineman Carl Johnson.
The game will be played Saturday, Feb. 5, at the Alamodome. The game will kickoff at 1 p.m. and will be broadcast live by CBS College Sports.
The head coach for the Texas team will be former Dallas Cowboys' defensive back Bill Bates, while former Houston Oilers and Atlanta Falcons head coach Jerry Glanville will coach The Nation.
Turner started in all 37 games he played as a Wildcat from 2008-10, helping the Wildcats to three straight NCAA Division II playoff appearances and compiling a 31-6 record along the way. In those three seasons the Wildcats put together two perfect regular seasons (10-0 in 2008 and 11-0 in 2010), won two Lone Star Conference championships and were ranked No. 1 in the nation for a week in the 2009 season, the first time in ACU's tenure in NCAA Division II that it was the nation's top-ranked football team.
Turner's best season was his last as he earned first team NCAA Division II all-America honors from both Daktronics and the Associated Press. Turner was also a finalist for the Gene Upshaw Award (presented annually to the nation's top lineman) and was a first team all-region selection by both Daktronics and Don Hansen's Football Gazette. He was also a first team all-Lone Star Conference South Division selection.
He already played in one post-season all-star game, earning the Jim Langer Offensive Lineman of the Game Award at the Cactus Bowl in Kingsville.
