CANYON – The Wildcats finished a tough day dropping a pair of games to West Texas A&M Friday at Lady Buff Yard. ACU fell victim to a 15-1 run rule defeat before losing game two 10-5.
ACU pushed one run across the plate in game one when Shawna Barrow doubled to lead off. She would score after a stolen base from Missy Mendoza and Lady Buff error advanced her for the Wildcats only run of the game.
The Lady Buffs responded with a six run first inning giving their starter Marci Womack all the support she needed. West Texas A&M scored three runs in the next three innings posting a 15-1 run rule victory.
Game two was all Lady Buffs as they opened with a four run first inning before ACU would chip back at the lead adding a run in the third and two more in the fourth where they trailed 3-4.
However, just as the Lady Buffs done all day they responded with three in the bottom of the fourth and three more in the bottom of the fifth inning. ACU would add a pair of runs in the top of the seventh, but their comeback would fall short there losing 10-5.
Brittany Rexroat went the distance for the Wildcats and was charged with the loss.
Shawna Barrow, Stephanie Tingle and Ashley Peterson all had two hits for ACU. Peterson added two RBIs to lead the Wildcats.
ACU will wrap up the series and their season tomorrow with a single game scheduled at noon.
