Wildcats Fall to Pioneers

ABILENE – In their first Lone Star Conference game Sunday afternoon the Wildcats fell to Texas Woman's in the series opener 9-1 at Wells Field. The Wildcats have lost six of their last seven as they head into tomorrow doubleheader with the Pioneers.

ACU and TWU will play a doubleheader Monday afternoon at Wells field to conclude the LSC opening series. First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m. and a 3 p.m. start for game two.

The Pioneer s jumped ahead in the top of the first scoring three runs on five hits. Angie Arebalos singled up the middle for two RBIs giving TWU an early 3-0 lead.

ACU fought back to score a run in the bottom of the first as Shawna Barrow lead off with a single to left field. After stealing second a single from Missy Mendoza scoring Barrow and cutting the Pioneer lead to 3-1. However that was all the Wildcats would marshal.

TWU would add three more runs in the third and two more in the fifth for an 8-1 lead. The final run for the Pioneers came off relief pitcher Jacquie Gregoire when Abby Burns homered to right making the score the eventual final, 9-1. 

Starting pitcher Shelby Hall was tagged for six runs –five earned- as she allowed eight hits to fall to 3-9 on the season. Texas Woman's starter Carley Case went the distance scattering five hits over six innings as the run-rule came into effect with an eight run lead after five innings.
