CANYON – ACU men's and women's basketball head to West Texas A&M for their regular season finale. The women are fighting for position in next week's Lone Star Conference basketball tournament in Bartlesville, Oklahoma. In the night game the men will look to finish on a winning note after a disappointing single win season.
Shawna Lavender and the women return to post-season tournament for the fourth consecutive year after clinching a berth Wednesday night from a Midwestern State victory. ACU can clinch the third seed in two different scenarios: an ACU win or an ACU loss and a loss by Texas A&M-Kingsville will give the Wildcats the third seed; however, with a loss and a Texas A&M-Kingsville win the Wildcats will enter the tournament as the fourth seed.
The Wildcats will try to take a win from the No. 6-ranked Lady Buffs who also hold the top spot in the South Central region as the Wildcats fell from the top 10 in this weeks poll. ACU has also not won in Canyon since the opening of First United Bank Center when the Wildcats took the first ever game in the Buffs new home on January 26, 202.
In the night cap the men will be looking to avenge an 11 point loss to the Buffs last month. While the Wildcats only have one conference win they have been in most games including leading Tarleton State at the half, and a buzzer beater loss to No. 9 Midwestern State.
Tipoff is scheduled for 4 p.m. with the men's game to follow shortly after. Fans in Abilene can hear the action on KYYW 1470 AM with the pregame show to begin 15 minutes before the game time.
