ACU Falls in OT 93-92

ABILENE – Mack Lankford had a shot in the lane that bounced off the rim as the freshman's 35 points was not enough for ACU as they fell to Southeastern Oklahoma 93-92 Monday night in Lone Star Conference Crossover action.

Lankford led all scorers but was held scoreless in overtime as the freshman set a new season high shooting 11 of 20 from the field and 5 of 6 from behind the three point line.

ACU jumped out to a 22-5 lead early on to start the game, but a 17-0 from the Savage Storm tied the game at 22-22 with just under 10 minutes left in the half. Southeastern would take a 39-34 lead into the locker room after being down by 17.

The second half saw eight ties as both teams battled back but it was a blistering 88 percent from the free throw line that kept the Savage Storm in the game after shooting under 40 percent from the field.

The Wildcats were 8 of 15 from behind the three point arc as Lankford's five treys led the way.

With 13 seconds left the freshman Lankford drilled a three to break an 81-81 tie. Nikki Nester would match the freshman's three with 3 seconds left giving ACU one last attempt, but a 25 foot shot from Renata Marquez bounced off the left of the rim sending the game to overtime.

Emily Miller started over time with an up and under post move to push the Wildcats to an 86-84 lead. Marquez would sink two free throws putting ACU up four, but Elizabeth Dean would score on consecutive knotting the game back at 88-88.

The Wildcats would hold a one point lead in the last minute, but a baseline move from Bailey Welch gave Southeastern a one point lead at 93-92.

Lankford would have a look in the middle of the paint, but her fade-away fell off the left of the rim.

ACU will be off until the after the New Year when they travel to Oklahoma on January 6 for Crossover action at Southwestern Oklahoma.
