SAN ANTONIO – The 20th-ranked ACU volleyball team pushed their winning streak to 11 with a 3-1 victory over Incarnate Word Saturday morning at the McDermott Center.
ACU stays perfect in the Lone Star Conference at 12-0 and 24-3 overall while the Cardinals fall to 5-7 in league play and 8-12 overall.
The Wildcats opened a 3-0 lead, but a 4-1 run by Incarnate Word gave the Cardinals the edge as both teams traded scores. UIW hit .265 taking the first set 25-22.
ACU would rally to take the next three sets as
Jennie Hutt recorded 17 kills over the final three sets pacing the Wildcats in the win. Hutt would finish with 18 kills two shy of her season high and a pair of blocks.
Seniors
Jordan Schilling and IJ Moronu also had a solid game for the Wildcats both finishing with double-doubles. Schilling recorded 12 kills and 14 digs while Moronu picked up 16 digs and a season high 53 assists.
The Cardinal offense veered away from the nation's second leader in blocks as she only recorded a single block; however the LSC Player of the Year candidate only committed two errors offensively hitting .361. She finished with 15 kills on 36 attempts accounting for 15.5 points for the Wildcats.
The Wildcats return home on Thursday for the biggest game of the season in the LSC as they host West Texas A&M for the regular season league title. ACU will tipoff the match at 7 p.m. as a host of activities are planned for a “Purple Rush” of the Lady Buffs along with the first 250 fans receiving rally towels.
