Wildcats Blank Javelinas, 3-0

KINGSVILLE – The Wildcats extended their winning streak to 10 as they knocked off Texas A&M-Kingsville, 3-0 Thursday night at Hampton Inn Court. ACU also stays perfect in Lone Star Conference play at 11-0 and improved to 23-3 overall while the Javelinas fell to 10-13 overall and 4-7.
ACU fell behind in the first set 17-15 after trading points most of the set. After a timeout and a kill from Neely Borger the Wildcats responded to tie the game at 20 and take the lead after a kill from IJ Moronu. The Wildcats would get help from the Javelinas with three consecutive errors to close out the first set.
In the second set ACU would jump out to a quick 6-2 lead as a block from senior Shawna Hines paced the Wildcats. Hines would finish with three blocks on the night, but lead ACU offensively with nine kills and a .389 hitting percentage.
Maddie Robinett would serve 11 points for the Wildcats as they controlled the second set 25-16 to take a two game lead.
The Wildcats and Javelinas would battle back and forth in the final set but a kill from Robinett and Moronu would close out a 25-23 victory for ACU. It was the fifth consecutive sweep for the Wildcats and 15th sweep of the season.
Moronu recorded her 13th double-double of the season with 25 assists and 15 digs in the win. Borger was also solid pacing the defense with four blocks while hitting .308 with six kills.
ACU will wrap up the road portion of their regular season schedule on Saturday with their first Lone Star Conference match against Incarnate Word. Tip off in San Antonio is set for 11 a.m. at the McDermott Center.
