Wildcats cruise past Falcons

ODESSA -- The ACU Wildcats played one of their best matches of the season Tuesday night as they rolled to a 3-0 non-conference volleyball victory over Texas-Permian Basin at The Falcon Dome.

The Wildcats (12-4) hit .356 in the match with only 11 attack errors compared to 47 kills in 101 attacks.  The Lady Falcons, meanwhile, fell to 9-12 as they hit just .052 for the match, failing to match the pace set by the Wildcats.

ACU won 3-0 for the seventh time this season and for the third straight time, winning 25-18, 25-16, 25-16 in a match that took just a little more than one hour to complete.

In the first set, the Lady Falcons held a 12-10 lead before ACU won seven of the next nine points to take a 17-14 lead.  After UTPB won the next point, ACU won eight of the final 11 points to win the first set.

The Wildcats jumped all over the Lady Falcons in the second set, pushing out to as much as a 13-7 lead.  ACU's lead in the second set never dipped below six points as the Wildcats cruised to the victory.

ACU did much the same in the third set as it did in the second set, rolling to a 15-6 lead and never looking back.  The Wildcats won the match as Jordan Schilling, Kalynne Allen and Schilling closed the match with back-to-back-to-back kills.

Junior middle blocker Shawna Hines led the Wildcats with 10 kills and seven total blocks, hitting .474 in the match.  Schilling had nine kills, while Lauren Leone added eight.  Junior setter Ijeoma Moronu had 38 assists, seven digs and four assists.

ACU will be back in action this weekend at the Pittsburg State Invitational in Pittsburg, Kan.
