NCAA Division II South Central Region Tournament page
ABILENE -- The ACU Wildcats have known since Tuesday that they would be part of this year's NCAA Division II South Central Region Tournament, they just didn't know where they would be playing.
Late Sunday night they found out they would be heading to America's heartland to play in Warrensburg, Mo., on the campus of the University of Central Missouri. This will be the 13th NCAA regional tournament the Mules have hosted, including eight straight from 1998-2005.
The Wildcats (43-17) won the Lone Star Conference championship last Tuesday with a 6-0 win over Angelo State, securing the league's title and automatic bid into the regional tournament. ACU will enter the tournament ast the No. 2 seed behind top-seeded Central Missouri.
Angelo State is the No. 3 seed, followed by Emporia State, Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association champion Nebraska-Omaha at No. 5 and Heartland Conference champion Texas-Permian Basin at No. 6.
The Wildcats will open the tournament at 3:30 p.m. Thursday against the Mavericks of Nebraska-Omaha at James R. Crane Stadium / Robert N. Tompkins Field. The first game of the tournament will be at noon Thursday and will feature Angelo State against Emporia State, followed by the ACU-UNO game. Central Missouri will take on first-time regional tournament participant UTPB at 7 p.m. in the final game of the opening day.
All of ACU's games will be broadcast back to Abilene on KYYW 1470 AM.
This trip to the regional tournament is the eighth for the Wildcats since 2000 and ninth in school history. ACU won the regional tournament in 2003 to make its only trip to the NCAA Division II College World Series.
