DALLAS ? Abilene Christian finished as the top NCAA Division II team and tied for second place overall at the Dallas Baptist University Patriot Invitational Monday and Tuesday. The Wildcats tied with NAIA school Northwood University for second place and finished behind Oklahoma Christian (NAIA) in the three-round tournament that featured 13 teams.

The Wildcats, who recently dropped out of the national top 25, may have helped their cause with the strong showing. ACU's three-round total of 890 was a season low and the lowest total since the Wildcats' spring opener in Laredo Feb. 9-10 when the team shot an 894.

Cyril Bouniol tied for second overall with a 215 improving in each of the three rounds. Bouniol, who finished in the top five for the third time this spring, shot a 74 in round one, a 71 in round two and finished solid with a 70 Tuesday.

Bouniol tied with OCU's Fernando Gonzales (72-71-72) and Gonzales' teammate TorErik Knudsen won the tournament with a 214 (73-69-72). Hilton Funk tied for 11th place with a 222 shooting a 74 in all three rounds. Freshman Zach Sadau tied for 21st with a 227 (76-74-77), Patrick Hanauer tied for 23rd shooting a 228 (76-78-74), and Michael Andruchek rounded out head coach Mike Campbell's five with a 240 (74-81-85) and a tie for 51st place.

The senior, Hanauer, shot his lowest total of the spring. He is ACU's only returning all-Lone Star Conference honoree from a year ago. However, in the off-season he injured his back, but he's slowly progressing and has improved his three round totals in each of the three spring tournaments he's competed in. Hanauer shot a 242 at the St. Edward's Tournament in February, a 237 at the SoCal Intercollegiate March 9-10, and Tuesday his 228 showed the improvement ACU will need to make a push come playoff time.

The Wildcats have just one more tournament April 6-7 in Edmond, Okla. before the LSC Championship Tournament April 20-21 in Thackerville, Okla.
