Wildcats top Cameron, 77-66

ABILENE -- The ACU Wildcats rebounded from their worst performance of the season with one of their best Thursday night as they knocked off Cameron, 77-66, at Moody Coliseum in the Lone Star Conference crossover opener for both women's teams.

The win evens the Wildcats' record at 3-3, while the Lady Aggies fall to 3-3 with the loss.  ACU will be back in action Saturday at 2 p.m. when it hosts Southwestern Oklahoma State in another LSC crossover game.

Monday night at Moody Coliseum, the Wildcats committed 25 turnovers and had just 16 field goals in a 60-44 loss to Incarnate Word, their worst offensive output in eight seasons.

Thursday night, however, the Wildcats bounced back by shooting 48 percent from the field (53.1 percent in the second half) and reaching their Monday night point total early in the second half.

Jamie Meyer was almost perfect, missing just two shots as she hit 11 of 12 shots from the field and 3 of 4 from the free throw line for a game-high 26 points.  Her twin sister, Jody Meyer, had a double-double with 11 points, 12 rebounds and six blocked shots, while Joanna Harner and Autmun Whitaker each scored 10 points.  Senior point guard Kat Kundmueller had nine assists and seven rebounds to go along with three points.

ACU led 35-26 at halftime, but quickly outscored Cameron 10-4 in the first 3:24 of the second half to open up a 15-point lead at 45-30.  The run was capped by a short jumper by Jamie Meyer

The Lady Aggies were able to pull to within 56-43 before ACU responded with another 9-2 run that was sparked by freshman point guard Cecilee Perez, who had three jumpers and an assist in the run.  She capped the run with a short jumper with 8:29 to play to make it a 64-45 ACU lead.

Cameron actually whittled the lead down to 70-64 with 2:07 to play, but Jamie Meyer hit a layup with 1:54 to play, and Jody Meyer hit a layup on a feed from her sister to make it 74-64 with 1:27 left to seal the victory.
