AUSTIN – The Wildcats fell to Incarnate Word 67-63 Saturday afternoon at the St. Edward's Shootout on the campus of St. Edward's University.
ACU got off to a cold start in the first half as they shot 33% from the field. They trailed by as many as 10 points before going into the half down, 31-24.
In the second half the Wildcats fought back as they took their first lead of the game at the 10 minute mark when Kelsey Darby-Holson hit a three-pointer to make it, 45-44 ACU.
However, the Wildcats could not pull away as they only managed to build a two point lead before the Cardinals stormed back. Although the lead never exceeded double digits ACU only got as close as four points in the last minute.
Jody Meyer made two free throws to cut the lead to four, but ACU could not steal the inbounds pass and was forced to foul with seven seconds. Incarnate Word made both free throws to make it a two possession game as Kat Kundmueller scored her only points at the buzzer making it 67-63.
The Meyer sisters were solid again as Jody Meyer scored 27 and grabbed 12 boards for her second consecutive double-double. Jamie Meyer who scored 27 in the second half last night was held to 23 points tonight as she added five rebounds.
Kathrine Frost led Incarnate Word with 16 points as the Cardinals placed three in double figures. UIW was also nearly perfect down the stretch as they were 9 of 10 from the free throw line to seal the win.
The Wildcats fall to 1-2 as they travel to Odessa to take on UT-Permian Basin on Tuesday before the Thanksgiving holiday.
