ABILENE – The ACU?Wildcats open the season Monday night with an important NCAA?Division II South Central region contest against the Rattlers from St.?Mary's. Monday's game is set for a 6 p.m. tipoff at Moody Coliseum.
Both ACU?and St. Mary's reached the regional tournament last season, and Monday's game will eventually factor into the regional rankings for both teams at the end of the regular season. The Wildcats' game against St. Mary's is the first of seven games the Wildcats will play this season against teams that reached the NCAA?Division II?South Central Region Tournament last year.
The Wildcats got tuned up for the regular season with a pair of exhibition games over the last two weeks. They opened the exhibition season on Oct. 30 with an 81-61 win over a Lubbock Christian team that on Monday night knocked off Texas Tech. Then Monday night in Dallas, the Wildcats lost to SMU, 74-47, at Moody Coliseum.
Senior forward
Jamie Meyer – the Lone Star Conference South Division Pre-Season Player of the Year – led the Wildcats in scoring in both exhibition games, putting up 22 points against Lubbock Christian and then 10 against SMU.
St. Mary's lost its top three scorers from last season, all of whom averaged better than 10 points per game for a team that lost in the regional tournament quarterfinals.
