Red-hot Wildcats top TWU, 3-0

ABILENE -- Jordan Schilling had 10 kills Thursday night to lead a balanced ACU attack as the Wildcats swept Texas Woman's in a Lone Star Conference volleyball match at Moody Coliseum.

The win pushes the Wildcats to 16-5 overall and 3-1 in the LSC, while the Pioneers fall to 12-11 and 2-3.  ACU will be back in action Saturday at 2 p.m. when it hosts Texas A&M-Commerce in another LSC match at Moody Coliseum.  The Lions were swept by Angelo State on Thursday, falling to 18-6 and 3-2.

Schilling had 10 kills, three assists and 13 digs to lead an ACU offense that hit .286 in the match, including .442 in the first set.  Senior middle blocker Lauren Leone finished with nine kills, while Shawna Hines and Jennie Hutt had eight kills apiece.

The Wildcats won the first set 25-15 before winning the final two sets 25-22, 25-21, as they won for the seventh time in their last eight matches.

After crusing through the first set, the Wildcats had an 18-12 lead in the second set and appeared to be rolling to another easy win when the Pioneers seized the momentum.  Three straight errors by the Wildcats cut the lead to 18-16, and the set eventually rolled to a 21-21 tie on a serive ace by Jessica Crow.  The Pioneers took their first lead of the match at 22-21 on another service ace by Crow.

But the Wildcats -- faced with their first adverse situation of the night -- answered with three straight kills by Schilling to take a 24-22 lead.  Hines finished it off with a block off an attack by Alyson Harlan to give the Wildcats a 25-22 win.

The third set was tight throughout until a TWU service error, back-to-back kills by Hutt and an attack error by TWU pushed ACU to a 20-17 lead.

ACU's lead never fell below two points the rest of the way, and the Wildcats finished off the match on back-to-back kills from Leone and Hines.
