AUSTIN, Texas -- The 13th-ranked ACU golf team finished its first tournament of the 2008 spring season in impressive fashion Tuesday as the Wildcats recorded the lowest final-round score to finish fourth overall at the St. Edward's Invitational.
ACU shot a final-round 293, which beat the next closest team, Central Oklahoma (UCO), by seven (UCO shot a final-round 300). The Wildcats finished with a three-round total of 899, which placed them seven strokes behind the tournament winner, UCO (the No. 12-ranked team in the nation), who shot an 892.
No. 2 St. Edward's finished in second place with an 896, while Cameron University placed third with an 898. No. 6 Barry University (Florida), the NCAA Division II defending national champion, finished tied for fifth with Southeastern Oklahoma State as they both shot 900.
ACU senior Curtis Harris and freshman Cyril Bouniol both finished tied for eighth in the individual standings with an overall score of 222. After struggling some in the first two rounds, Bouniol shot a one-under 70 in the final round. Senior Stephen Knight also had a solid showing for the Wildcats as he finished tied for 15th with a 225.
