A pair of Lone Star Conference matches in the metroplex this week will be a key factor in getting Abilene Christian back in the thick of the Lone Star Conference race. After the Wildcats dropped their only match Thursday in San Angelo to Angelo State, ACU is sitting 2-3 in league play with a ninth-place standing.
This week, the Wildcats will try to get back on the winning track when they face Texas A&M-Commerce Thursday at 7 p.m. and Texas Woman's Saturday at 2 p.m.
The Lady Lions of Commerce are tied for third in the LSC with a 4-2 mark and are 12-7 overall. Alyssa Oberle leads TAMC with 210 kills while the team ranks third in the league in hitting percentage (.234).
TWU is also tied for third with TAMC with a 4-2 mark in league play entering in to this week's matches. The Pioneers are 15-8 overall. Katie King leads TWU with 199 kills.
ACU has dropped below the .200 mark in hitting percentage and rank eighth with a .188 hitting percentage. However, defensively the Wildcats are still stout defensively ranking second in opponents hitting percentage (.131) and second in blocks with 142.5.
A pair of wins could spark a late Wildcat run after the team began the season at 9-0. Last season, ACU finished third in the LSC with an 8-4 mark in league play. The Wildcats are just one win away from matching their overall win total from a year ago when the team went 15-14 on the season. This year, the Wildcats are 14-7 overall.
