Wildcats move up to No. 9

Collegiate Baseball rankings

ABILENE -- The ACU Wildcats moved into a tie for the No. 9 spot in the latest Collegiate Baseball magazine poll, which was released Monday.

The Wildcats are 11-3 on the season after splitting a doubleheader last Friday at Northeastern State in ACU's only action last week.  ACU and Northeastern State were rained out last Saturday in Tahlequah, Okla., costing the Wildcats two games.  Nonetheless, the Wildcats moved up two spots in the poll and are tied with Franklin Pierce (0-0) in the poll.

Defending national champion Tampa (Fla.) is still ranked No. 1 in the nation at 13-2, followed by Cal State-Chico (15-1) at No. 2, Columbus State (13-2) at No. 3, Georgia College and State (11-3) at No. 4 and Florida Southern (13-2) and Kutztown (8-0) tied at No. 5.

ACU is the only Lone Star Conference team in the national rankings after Angelo State dropped out after being ranked No. 20 last week.  Other teams in the NCAA Division II South Central Region in the rankings are No. 15 Delta State (11-4), No. 18 Montevallo (12-4), No. 20 Ouachita Baptist (13-2), No. 23 St. Edward's (13-2) and No. 26 Incarnate Word (12-2).

The Wildcats are back in action this weekend when they host a four-game series against Southeastern Oklahoma State.  The Wildcats and Savage Storm will play a Friday doubleheader starting at 4 p.m., followed by a 1 p.m. Saturday doubleheader at Crutcher Scott Field.
