Wildcats finish 7th at St. Ed's

St. Edward's Spring Invitational Results

AUSTIN -- The ACU Wildcats finished seventh Tuesday at the St. Edward's Spring Invitational after firing a three-round total of 922 at the Circle C Golf Course.

The Wildcats -- ranked No. 7 in the nation entering the spring season -- had the lead after the first round of the tournament after posting a score of 312 in windy conditions on Monday.  The second round was extended to Tuesday morning where ACU top five posted a round of 313.  The Wildcats finished the tournament with a third round 297, but the second day total of 610 pushed the Wildcats down the leaderboard.

St. Edward's won the tournament with a three-round total of 897, while Barry University (Fla.) was second at 900, followed by Florida Institute of Technology at 908.  ACU's Lone Star Conference rivals Northeastern State (fourth at 911), Central Oklahoma (fifth at 916) and Cameron (sixth at 920) finished ahead of ACU.

ACU freshman Hugues Joannes -- the sixth-ranked player in NCAA Division II golf heading into the spring season -- finished tied for eighth in the individual medalist race, firing a three-round total of nine-over-par 225, a total helped greatly by a final-round 68.

The Wildcats will return to action March 5-6 at the Southern California Intercollegiate tournament in San Juan Capistrano, Calif.
