ABILENE - The ACU Wildcats finished third Tuesday at The Territory Classic in Duncan Okla., 18 strokes behind tournament champion and host, Cameron University.

Last week in Abilene, Cameron led the Charles Coody West Texas Intercollegiate at Diamond Golf Club in Abilene before fading on the second day and finishing third behind tournament champion ACU.  But there was no fade from Cameron at its home tournament as the Aggies followed up an opening-round 291 with a final-round 278 to finish with an impressive total of seven-under-par 569.

St. Edward's finished second behind the Aggies with a total of six-over-par 582 (299-283), while the Wildcats finished at 11-over-par 587 (298-289).  Northeastern State finished tied for third with ACU at 587 (300-287) and Midwestern State was fifth at 592 (300-292).

Nick Cristea of St. Edward's won the individual tournament championship with a two-round score of five-under-par 139 (70-69), while Peter Svaljen of Cameron was second at 140 (68-72).  ACU newcomer Hugues Joannes finished tied for third with two other players at three-under-par 141, shooting rounds of 72-69 in his first tournament as a Wildcat.

The Wildcats will return to action Oct. 1-2 at the Grand Canyon Fall Classic in Phoenix.  ACU head coach Mike Campbell left the United States shortly after The Territory Classic to fly to Ireland to join his brother, Chad, who is a member of the U.S. Ryder Cup team.  The U.S. team - which has not won the Ryder Cup since 1999 - will take on the European team this weekend at The K Club in Straffan, Ireland.
