ACU rolls to 3-0 in LSC South play
No. 14 Wildcats sweep ASU to win 28th straight at home
ABILENE -- The nationally ranked ACU volleyball team made quick work of Angelo State in Tuesday's Lone Star Conference South Division matchup, sweeping past the Rambelles to record its 28th straight win at Moody Coliseum.
The Wildcats -- ranked No. 14 in NCAA Division II in the latest American Volleyball Coaches' Association national poll -- improved to 13-3 overall and 3-0 in the LSC South. The defending conference champions have won 13 straight this season, and haven't lost at home since a four-game loss to West Texas A&M on Oct. 11, 2003.
ACU never trailed in the match against the Rambelles as it jumped out to leads of 8-2, 8-1 and 8-3 in the three games, respectively. The Wildcats -- the top hitting team in the LSC -- hit .290 for the match with only 12 errors on 100 attacks, whlie the Rambelles hit -.045 with 32 errors (27 kills) on 110 attacks.
The balanced Wildcat attack was paced by sophomore outside hitter Abbie Lowry, who had 10 kills (two errors) and hit .471 in the match. Ashlee Motola, who leads the LSC in hitting percentage at .392, hit .467 with nine kills and only two errors on 15 attacks. Amanda Slate, second in the LSC in hitting percentage at .385, hit .250 Tuesday night with nine kills and three errors on 24 attacks.
ACU will try to stretch its home winning streak to 29 straight Friday night when it hosts St. Mary's at 7 p.m. in a non-conference match. After that match, ACU has just three regular-season home matches remaining: Thursday, Oct. 6, vs. Eastern New Mexico; Saturday, Oct. 8, vs. West Texas A&M; and Thursday, Oct. 20, vs. Tarleton State.
