ACU coasts to 12th straight win

Wildcats win 12th straight

ACU improves to 2-0 in LSC South win victory

STEPHENVILLE -- At home or on the road, it just doesn't seem to matter to the ACU Wildcats right now.  They simply refuse to be beaten.

That resolve was on display again Saturday at Wisdom Gym where the Wildcats won their 12th straight match of the season with a 3-0 Lone Star Conference South Division win over Tarleton State.  The TexAnns pushed the defending LSC champions in the first game, but ACU prevailed, 35-33.  That was as close as TSU would get to stealing a game as the Wildcats closed out the match by winning the final two games, 30-21 and 30-20.

In the last two weeks (covering eight matches) the 15th-ranked Wildcats have lost one game, and that was last Friday night in a 3-1 win over Central Oklahoma.  ACU has rarely even been challenged, having held opponents to 21 points or less in 12 of their 24 game wins in that eight-match stretch.

After hitting just .149 as a team in the first game, the Wildcats restored order in the second game by hitting .342 and limiting the TexAnns to an .067 team hitting percentage.  Tarleton hit .000 in the third game as the Wildcats finished off the win and improve to 12-3 overall and 2-0 in the LSC South.

Senior rightside hitter Ashlee Motola continued her stellar play on Saturday with a team-best 16 kills and .440 hitting percentage.  In two matches last week, Motola hit .550 with 27 kills and just five errors on 40 total attacks.

Senior middle blocker Amanda Slate had 10 kills, three digs and four block assists for the Wildcats, while senior setter Lindsey Martin had 37 assists.  Senior outside hitter Michelle Bernhardt had nine kills, as did sophomore outside hitter Abbie Lowry.

ACU will return to action Tuesday when it hosts Angelo State at 7 p.m. in another LSC South Division contest.  The Wildcats will be looking for their 28th straight home win in a match that can be heard locally on KYYW 1470 AM as well as on the internet through TEAMLINE.
