Wildcats earn split on road trip
ACU knocks off UIW in four games after St. Mary's loss
SAN ANTONIO -- ACU rallied Saturday afternoon to beat Incarnate Word in four games as the Wildcats salvaged a split of a short two-match road trip in non-conference volleyball action.
The Wildcats (7-5 on the season) lost Friday night in three games to St. Mary's (30-26, 30-20, 30-27) before rallying the next day to beat winless UIW, 30-22, 28-30, 30-21, 30-18.
In Saturday's match, junior middle blocker Amanda Slate had 19 kills and hit .593 to pace the ACU offensive effort. Junior outside hitter Michelle Bernhardt had 15 kills and freshman outside hitter Abbie Lowry had 14 kills in the win. Junior setter Lindsey Martin had 48 assists and two kills to go along with nine digs.
In Friday night's loss, only two Wildcats (Slate with 14 and Sophia Kindred with 10) had more than nine kills as ACU hit just 10 percent (44 kills, 30 errors on 140 total attacks) in the match. The Lady Rattlers, meanwhile, hit .220 in running their record to 6-3.
ACU will return to action Tuesday at 7 p.m. when the Wildcats take on Texas Woman's University in Denton. The Wildcats will return to Moody Coliseum this weekend when they take on Texas A&M-Commerce (Friday at 7 p.m.) and Southeastern Oklahoma State (Saturday at 2 p.m.).
