Brandeborn earns NCAA honor
Former shot-put national champion named post-graduate winner
ABILENE -- Former ACU national shot-put champion Manuel Brandeborn has been named a winner of a $7,500 NCAA Post-Graduate Scholarship, the 23rd Wildcat athlete to earn the prestigious scholarship.
The NCAA awards the scholarship bases on academic work and athletic performance. Brandeborn won the 2002 NCAA Division II outdoor national championship in the shot put, and he has scored points in each of the last two outdoor championships for the Wildcats. He was part of six NCAA Division II national championship teams (indoor and outdoor in 2002, 2003 and 2004).
ACU has now produced 23 NCAA Post-Graduate scholarship honorees since 1966, the second-highest total in the state of Texas -- trailing only the University of Texas -- and more than the other 14 Lone Star Conference schools combined. Brandeborn is the fifth male track and field athlete at ACU to earn the honor, joining Charles Christmas (1966), Wendell Edwards (1992), Oscar Meneses (2000) and Alfred Rugema (2002) on the list.
