BELLEVUE — Abilene Christian continued dominating Seattle U this weekend, posting another emphatic run-rule victory on Saturday evening at Bannerwood Park. The Wildcats cruised to a 16-5 win in seven innings, marking their second straight run-rule win over the Redhawks and setting up a chance for a series sweep tomorrow.
ACU, now 10-7 in conference, exploded offensively, racking up 16 runs on just nine hits while drawing 10 walks. The game-breaking inning came in the seventh when the Wildcats poured 10 runs to put the game out of reach.
Zandt Payne led the charge at the plate, going 3-for-4 with four RBIs, including a pivotal three-run double in the second inning. Diego Cardenas added two hits and drove in two runs, while Grant Watkins chipped in a pair of RBIs and scored twice. Ranse Radtke also played a key role, reaching base four times and driving in two runs.
On the mound, Brett Lanman earned the win, throwing 5.2 innings and allowing just two earned runs while striking out seven. Chandler Benson and Blaine Palmer finished things off in relief.
Seattle U, now 4-10 in conference, briefly kept it close, pulling within 6-4 after six innings, but the Wildcats' relentless offense proved too much.
The Wildcats will face the Redhawks again on Sunday, with the first pitch starting at 1 p.m. CT.
