BELLEVUE — The Wildcats opened its weekend series at Seattle U with an offensive explosion, routing the Redhawks 15-1 in seven innings at Bannerwood Park on Friday afternoon. ACU tallied 15 hits and got a strong start on the mound from Dominick Reid to move to 25-14 overall and 9-7 in WAC play.
ACU came out swinging early, plating four runs in the first inning and three more in the second to jump out to a commanding 7-0 lead. Brady Gray delivered a two-RBI single in the first, while Reese Borho capped the opening frame with a two-run double. The Wildcats never looked back, scoring in five of seven innings and finishing with 12 RBIs.
Zandt Payne paced the offense with a 4-for-5 day at the plate, scoring three times and driving in a run. Grant Watkins added a pair of hits, including a two-run home run in the seventh, while Borho and Benjamin Greer each notched multi-hit, multi-RBI games.
On the mound, Reid was in control throughout, striking out eight over six innings while allowing just one run on four hits. Nolan Foster pitched a clean seventh to seal the run-rule victory.
With the win, ACU takes the opening game of the series and will see the Redhawks for game two on Saturday. The first pitch is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. CT.
