ACU Overcomes UTA in Late Inning Dominance

ARLINGTON, Texas — Abilene Christian used a pair of late-inning rallies to secure a 7-6 victory over UT Arlington on Thursday night at Clay Gould Ballpark. The Wildcats scored four runs over the final two innings to complete the comeback and improve to 22-14 on the season and 6-7 in WAC play.

After falling behind early, the Wildcats showed dominance at the plate and on the mound. Nick Arias continued his hot streak with a three-hit performance, including a pair of RBIs that helped keep ACU within striking distance. Sam Hardcastle added two hits and scored twice, while Zandt Payne delivered a key sacrifice fly in the eighth to tie the game.

The go-ahead blow came off the bat of Ranse Radtke, a two-run single in the ninth gave ACU their lead. UTA pushed across a run in the ninth, but proved to be not enough.

On the mound, Dominick Reid battled through six innings, striking out four while allowing four runs. Caden Greanead earned the win in relief, tossing two strong innings, and Henry Cone locked down the save in the ninth.

UTA was paced offensively by Cade Dodson, who went 3-for-4 with three doubles, and Tyce Armstrong, who drove in two runs.

ACU will finish the series in Arlington tomorrow. Due to the weather forecast on Saturday, there will be a doubleheader on Friday with the first game starting at 2:05 p.m. CT, and the third and final game starting close after.
