ARLINGTON — ACU capped a successful Friday with a doubleheader sweep of UT Arlington at Clay Gould Ballpark, picking up a pair of road wins 6-5 in Game One and 11-5 in game two.
The Wildcats opened the afternoon with a hard-fought 6-5 win in game one, leaning on a balanced offensive attack and clutch pitching.
Zandt Payne led the way at the plate with a 3-for-5 performance, scoring twice and driving in a run. Benjamin Greer turned in a standout showing as well, going 4-for-5 with a triple and an RBI, while Braden Regala and Diego Cardenas added key hits in the middle innings to help build a lead.
On the mound, Brett Lanman delivered another steady start, working five innings, striking out six, and limiting the Mavericks to just two runs. Chandler Benson was equally effective in relief, tossing four innings to earn the save as ACU held off a UTA ninth-inning rally to seal the win.
The Wildcats tallied 12 hits in the opener and stole five bases.
In Game Two, ACU kept the momentum rolling with a commanding offensive performance, racking up 16 hits en route to an 11-5 win over UT Arlington.
Diego Cardenas provided the biggest swing of the night with a two-run home run in the second inning, finishing 2-for-5 with three RBIs. Payne and Greer continued their strong days with two more hits, while Jack Nielsen and Grant Watkins each added multi-hit efforts to help the Wildcats pull away.
Cade McGarrh set the tone on the mound, tossing seven solid innings and striking out eight to earn his third win of the season. The ACU bullpen locked down the final outs despite a late push from the Mavericks.
The Wildcats scored in six innings, showcasing timely hitting and aggressive baserunning with four stolen bases.
The Wildcats will be back in Bullock Brothers Ballpark on Monday to take on Texas Tech at 6:05 p.m. CT. On Tuesday, the Wildcats will then travel to Lubbock and take on the Red Raiders once again.
