ACU Drops Doubleheader to Start WAC Play

SEATTLE - The ACU softball team began WAC competition with a pair of games in the Pacific Northwest against Seattle U on Friday. The Wildcats, coming off a win over UIW in the finale of the Longhorn invitational last weekend, dropped both games of the doubleheader to the Redhawks, 3-1 in the opener and 7-0 in the nightcap.

ACU struggled at the plate with only four hits combined over the twinbill. The Wildcats (4-18 overall, 0-2 in the WAC) finish their first conference series of the 2025 campaign with a single match on Saturday at 3 p.m. CT.

Below is a brief recap of Friday's two games.

Game 1 - Seattle U 3, ACU 1 - Lead-off batter Taylor Bachemyer slugged her first home run as a Wildcat - and just the second of her career - to put ACU in front in the third inning. The solo shot to left-center was Bachmeyer's first long ball since her freshman year at Sam Houston in 2021. Seattle U responded with a run in the fourth, and then pulled away with two runs on three hits in the sixth. Lina Russo pitched all six frames for ACU and threw five strikeouts.

Game 2 - Seattle U 7, ACU 0 - The Redhawks' bats heated up in the second game with 10 hits including three doubles, two triples and a home run. Seattle U busted open a scoreless game with five runs in the third inning, and then added two more in the fifth. Bachmeyer was the only ACU player to record a hit as Seattle U's pitcher was able to erase four walks with two double plays. Taylor Haywood came in to pitch the sixth inning for the Wildcats and struck out two.
