SEATTLE - The ACU softball team built another lead, but ultimately it did not hold up as the Seattle U Redhawks stormed back to defeat the Wildcats 4-3 on Saturday afternoon.
Three consecutive singles by
Emalee Romero,
Taylor Bachmeyer and
Julianna Martinez loaded the bases for ACU in the top of the third inning. Catcher
Catrin Hoffman drove in two runners with a single to left-center.Â
In the fourth, freshman
Ari Maxwell connected on her first career home run - a solo blast to left-center that propelled ACU in front, 3-0.
Seattle U beat up on the Wildcats in the fifth with a home run, four straight batters who reached safely and Taylor Fitch hit a 2-RBI single that scored Camryn Johnson and Sophia Kissling.
All squared at 3-3, Seattle U had a triple, a walk and a fielder's choice to score the walk-off victory over ACU.
The Wildcats (4-19 overall) lost all three games of their WAC lid-lifter, and will stay in the Pacific Northwest to play three games in Eugene, Oregon.
ACU faces off with Oregon State on Sunday at 2 p.m. CT. That night, ACU takes head-to-head against the Oregon Ducks on Sunday, 7 p.m. C.T. and on Monday at 12:30 p.m. CT.
