Box Score 2 ABILENE - The ACU softball team's bats could not catch on as the Wildcats lost both games of a doubleheader to visiting Utah Tech on Friday, 5-1 in game one and 8-3 in game two.
The two losses drop ACU's record to 8-26 this season and 4-7 in conference. The three-game series wraps on Saturday with a 12 p.m. first pitch at Poly Wells Field for the program's She Can Be Game, presented by Dr. Leslie Hutchins. Fans will be able to run the bases following the game.
Taylor Bachmeyer was ACU's highlight of the day. The rightfielder drove in three runs, including a 2-run home run over the left field wall. That pushes her season total to 11 RBI, a new team-high.
Emalee Romero was also sharp at the plate with three hits over the two games.
Game 1: Utah Tech 5, ACU 1 - The Trailblazers scored the game's first five runs, including a 2-RBI triple by Cassidy Hornung in the second inning. ACU's
Lina Russo started in the circle, but left after four innings where she gave up three earned runs and struck out four.
Ella Beeman came on in relief and pitched the final three innings.Â
The Wildcats left 13 runners on base as they could not convert on six free bases from walks.
Taylor Bachmeyer drove in the lone run on a sacrifice fly to right, scoring
Taylor Haywood in the bottom of the 6th inning.
Game 2: Utah Tech 8, ACU 4 - UTU once again got on top first with an RBI singles in the 1st and 3rd, and an RBI double in the 3rd, to lead 3-0.
ACU charged back when
Emily Berryhill lofted a 2-2 pitch to left-center for a double. Bachmeyer raced home on the play.
However, the Trailblazers scored four runs in the 5th to strengthen their hold on the game.
Rachel Cook singled to left to lead off the 5th inning, and Bachmeyer followed with her blast to left field to cut the deficit to 8-3.
ACU loaded the bases in the 6th through a hit by pitch and back-to-back singles. Cook flied out to right to score
Emalee Romero, and also advanced the runners to second and third.
But a groundout to the shortstop ended the Wildcats' threat.
Beeman started game two and pitched 3 innings before
Chase Mueller went the rest of the way.
Utah Tech's Lexie Wilson was efficient, needing only 82 pitches to finish her complete game victory.
