ABILENE - Abilene Christian women's basketball wraps up its nonconference slate versus Nelson University at Moody Coliseum at 1 p.m. Monday. ACU will be hosting Wildcat Family Day, offering free admission to all fans.
The Wildcats aim to finish off an undefeated nonconference schedule at Moody Coliseum, where they are 6-0 this year. ACU has won its last 11 home games, dating back to the 2024-25 campaign. It last went unbeaten through nonconference play at Moody Coliseum in 2022-23.
ACU also looks to continue its dominance in the month of December, where it holds an 11-1 record across the 2025-26 and 2024-25 seasons. The Wildcats' lone loss this month came in a 67-57 defeat to undefeated and 21st-ranked Texas Tech on Dec. 14. They're tied with Southern Utah atop the Western Athletic Conference standings at 8-4.
The Wildcats, having won four of their last five contests, are on the heels of a sweep of the inaugural ACU Christmas Classic on Dec. 19-20. ACU flexed its defensive muscles in a 60-48 win over Montana before taking down Buffalo, 72-48. The Wildcats forced 45 total turnovers, including 30 on behalf of the Bulls, with 22 steals.
ACU was fueled by its pair of Preseason All-Western Athletic Conference honorees,
Meredith Mayes and
Payton Hull. Mayes totaled 34 points on 16-of-25 shooting to go with 16 rebounds, two blocks and five steals. The Bixby, Okla. product boasts the conference's top field goal percentage at .679 while ranking third in the nation.
Hull collected 31 points and 12 rebounds between both games last weekend. She leads the WAC in scoring with 17.5 points per game behind the fifth-best field goal percentage at .409. Hull's 2.42 three-pointers per game are second in the conference, while her .820 free throw percentage ranks third.
Erin Woodson and
Emma Troxell totaled 26 and 19 points, respectively, at the ACU Christmas Classic. Woodson came away with 15 boards, while Troxell brought down 16 rebounds, including 12 versus Montana. Both players are among the WAC's top 15 scorers and rebounders.
The Wildcats have beaten the Lady Lions in each of the past two seasons in Abilene. ACU earned an 87-40 win last year, powered by double-digit scoring efforts by
Natalia Chavez, Troxell and Hull. Troxell and Hull tallied three steals apiece, amassing nine rebounds and seven assists.
The Lady Lions are 10-1 this season with a 6-1 mark in the Sooner Athletic Conference. Nelson, in the midst of a six-game winning streak, will designate Monday's matchup as an exhibition.
