ACU Plays Tuesday Tilt in Central Texas

The ACU men's basketball team visits San Marcos and Texas State on Tuesday at 7 p.m. at the Strahan Arena at the University Events Center.

Last November in Abilene, the Wildcats defeated the Bobcats 72-60. Cade Hornecker made his first, and, so far, only career start and grabbed 10 rebounds in 17 minutes.

ACU (3-1) is coming off its first setback of the 2025-26 season, losing to Stephen F. Austin 76-66 in Nacogdoches last Friday night.

Texas State (3-2) boasts two wins over Division I opponents, both in San Marcos: an 80-69 victory over UTSA, and a 77-67 triumph versus Texas Southern. Five Bobcat players are averaging at least nine points a game.

Tuesday's matchup against Texas State will be streamed on ESPN+, and Grant Boone has the call on the ACU Sports Network.

LAST TIME OUT
  • ACU went blow-for-blow with Stephen F. Austin last Friday until the 'Jacks went ahead by eight with a minute remaining thanks to one of SFA's 13 made 3-pointers.
  • Yaniel Rivera scored a career-high 19 points on 5-for-8 shooting, and a perfect 7-for-7 at the FT line. Rivera previously set a career best 11 pts on Nov. 6 vs. Omaha.
  • SFA took care of the ball, only turning it over 8 times contributing to just 6 ACU points.
  • The game featured 8 ties and 9 lead changes.
  • Cbo Newton scored 12 pts and had 8 rebounds and 3 assists. Bradyn Hubbard was held to 9 points, snapping his double-digit scoring streak at 8 games in-a-row.

B-HUB IS OUR MAN
  • Bradyn Hubbard scored 26 pts, his most in an ACU uniform, in the 73-71 win vs. Omaha on Nov. 6.
  • Hubbard was one of 5 players voted to the Preseason All-WAC Team after averaging 10 points and 5 rebounds a game last season as a junior.

WINNING START
  • Before Friday's loss at SFA, ACU was off to its first 3-0 start since the 2020-21 season. That season included a win over Texas in the NCAA Tournament.
