Wildcats Drop Second Straight

ARLINGTON — Four UT-Arlington players scored in double figures Saturday afternoon as the Lady Mavericks led from start to finish in a 71-52 win over ACU in a Western Athletic Conference women's basketball game at College Park Center.

The Wildcats' second straight loss drops them to 13-8 overall and 2-4 in WAC play, while UTA improves to 10-7 and 5-1.

Playing for a third straight game without WAC leading scorer Payton Hull, the Wildcats shot just 42 percent from the floor, including 22 percent (4 of 18) from 3-point range. The Lady Mavs outscored ACU 30-15 in the first and fourth quarters combined, as ACU was 7 of 27 from the floor in those two quarters, including 1 of 9 from the 3-point arc.

The Lady Mavs were led by Taliyah Clark, who scored 24 points on 8 of 17 shooting from the floor, including 5 of 12 from the arc. Aspen Thornton had 14 points, and Koi Love and Avery Brittingham had 12 apiece. The Lady Mavs finished 29 of 60 from the floor, including 7 of 21 from beyond the arc. UTA was 10 of 26 from the floor (6 of 11 from 3-point range) in the decisive first and fourth quarters.

For the second straight game, Meredith Mayes (14 points) and Emma Troxell (13 points)n led the Wildcats in scoring. 

The Wildcats return to Moody Coliseum for three important WAC games beginning Thursday at 6 p.m. against Cal Baptist. After one week off, they'll host Utah Tech at 6 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 6, and Southern Utah at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 8.
