ABILENE, Texas – Despite a career-high performance from Erin Woodson, Abilene Christian women's basketball came up just short in a thrilling 87-84 matchup against California Baptist on Thursday night at Moody Coliseum.
Woodson put together a stellar offensive display, scoring a career-high 23 points while shooting 7-of-13 from the field, including six made three-pointers. Her clutch shooting helped ACU stay within striking distance throughout the game.
The Wildcats (13-9, 2-5 WAC) showed resilience, erasing multiple deficits, including a 12-point gap in the second quarter. Bella Earle had a strong all-around performance with 18 points, 13 rebounds, and seven assists, while Emma Troxell added 16 points and six rebounds. ACU's defense forced 12 steals, helping create transition opportunities.
Cal Baptist (7-14, 4-3 WAC) used efficient three-point shooting (15-of-27) and key free throws in the final moments to secure the win. Khloe Lemon led the Lancers with 29 points, knocking down six three-pointers of her own.
ACU made a strong push in the fourth quarter, with Woodson's late three-pointer tying the game at 74-74. However, Cal Baptist responded with back-to-back triples to regain control. The Wildcats kept the pressure on but were unable to close the gap in the final seconds.
Despite the loss, ACU's offensive efficiency was on full display. The Wildcats take a little break this Saturday, and then bounce back in Moody on Thursday for a 6 p.m. (CT) tip-off against Utah Tech.
