Riverside, Calif. — Abilene Christian University's women's basketball team hit the road for their first conference away game of the season and delivered a dominant 71-55 win over California Baptist at the CBU Events Center on Saturday afternoon.
The Wildcats got off to a strong start, taking a 21-12 lead in the first quarter, and never looked back. They maintained control throughout the game, holding off several scoring bursts by the Lancers to secure the decisive win. ACU's balanced offense and tenacious defense were key to their success.
Meredith Mayes delivered a career-best performance, pouring in 24 points on a near-perfect 10-of-12 shooting from the field. She also added nine rebounds and a block.
Joining Mayes in the spotlight was Bella Earle, who recorded a double-double with 12 points and 11 rebounds, with four assists. Emma Troxell contributed 14 points, including clutch baskets that helped ACU maintain its momentum. Erin Woodson added 13 points and two steals, anchoring the Wildcats' defensive effort.
ACU was highly effective, collecting 16 offensive rebounds, and turning those into 18 second-chance points. Their defensive intensity forced 15 turnovers, leading to 16 points off CBU mistakes. The Wildcats also limited the Lancers to 35.1% shooting from the field and a modest 28.6% from beyond the arc.
The win improves ACU's record to 13-6 overall and 2-2 in conference play.
The Wildcats will look to build on this momentum as they travel to Stephenville for their next matchup against Tarleton on Thursday, Jan. 23. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m. (CT).
