ARLINGTON - Abilene Christian's Cross Country team put on quality performances at the Gerald Richey UTA Invitational on Saturday morning, Sept. 7.
Women's 5k took place starting at 7:30 a.m. while the Men's started after at 7:45 a.m.
The women's team secured a second-place finish with 57 points, led by junior Peyton Bornstein, who clocked in at 18:27.30 for 6th place. Freshman Audrey Chitwood followed in 9th (18:32.90), while fellow freshman Hannah Kasper took 11th (18:33.40). Alyssa Quinones (14th, 18:38.80) and Charley Hamilton (20th, 18:56.20) rounded out the top five, pushing the Wildcats to a team average of 18:37 and a tight spread of just 28 seconds between their top five runners.
On the men's side, the Wildcats placed third with 66 points. Freshman Andruw Villa led the charge with a stellar 3rd place finish in 14:58.60. Mark Barajas finished in 13th (15:20.00), while Carlos Cortez (17th, 15:24.90), Zachary Martin (22nd, 15:32.10), and Mikhail Fortner (23rd, 15:32.60) completed the scoring for ACU.
The Wildcats will look to build on these strong early-season results as they prepare for their next upcoming meet in Columbia, Mo. for the Gans Greek Classic.
