ARLINGTON, Texas — Senior setter Madeline Guffy was named as the Jersey Mike's A Sub Above Western Athletic Conference (WAC) Setter of the Week, the conference announced Wednesday afternoon.
Guffy is the first player in head coach's Ijeoma Moronu Altsrup's coaching era that has earned one of the WAC's weekly honors.
Guffy earned the award due to her performance at the Wildcat Classic on September 19 and 20. At the tournament, the Wildcats finished 2-0, with a three-set sweep over Alabama A&M and a thrilling five-set win over Oral Roberts.
In the first match against the Bulldogs, Guffy finished with 30 assists, nine digs, one block and one ace.
Against the Golden Eagles, Guffy finished with 50 assists and 10 digs, giving her the fourth double-double of the 2024 season. She also added another service ace.
Overall, she finished last week with 80 total assists, averaging 10 assists per set, and now sits in fifth in the WAC averaging 7.14 assists per set. She also had a total of two aces and one block.
Guffy and the Wildcats will take this momentum on the road to Utah as they start WAC play. First, the Wildcats will play at Utah Tech on Thursday at 7 p.m., then will head to Cedar City on Saturday at 2 p.m. to take on Southern Utah. Thursday's match will be streamed on WAC International and Saturday's match will air live on ESPN+.
