Soccer Secures First Win of the Season

ABILENE - ACU soccer came out on top with a 2-1 win against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, showcasing a strong start and solid defensive play. The Wildcats struck quickly, as Malia Cerdon found the back of the net just three minutes into the match, giving ACU an early 1-0 lead. Later in the first half, Georgia Guenther added to the tally, scoring a crucial second goal to put the Wildcats ahead 2-0.

Despite Corpus Christi's efforts to mount a comeback with a goal in the second half, ACU's defense held firm, successfully fending off multiple offensive pushes to secure the win and maintain their early-season momentum. Lili Ross held strong in both halves with two saves.

"Excited for the team win as they executed on many areas we've been working on in training," Said head coach Stephen Salas. "We were prepared for this game and it was great to see the grit and determination throughout."

The Wildcats stay on the road this weekend to Natchitoches, Louisiana to face Northwestern State on Sunday.

"The team has built on each game we've played this season so I'm ready to see them compete on the field again," Salas said. "We know it's NSU's home opener so we are excited for a game that will prepare us for a WAC Championship."
