ABILENE – The Abilene Christian University (ACU) Women's Soccer Team hosted Lamar University with an intense showdown, ending the night in a draw.
ACU's Abby Smith and Peyton Hill managed to get shots on goal within the first 20 minutes of the half. Chayse Thorn and McCarly Holloman kept the pressure with two more shot attempts.
The Wildcats earned multiple corner kicks throughout the half, further highlighting their control over the match's pace and their ability to create set-piece opportunities.
After leaving the first half scoreless, the Wildcats tried raising the stakes.
Thorn kept strong in the second half with two shots on goal. Hannah Martin, Peyton Hill, and Malia Cerdon also left with shots on goal.
"I'm excited about what we are building and how the team has taken hold of it," said head coach Stephen Salas. "We've put a large emphasis on our team defending and it showed tonight against a top-50 side in Lamar. 270 minutes of shutout soccer, but we need to continue to find our discipline in front of the net. We built some great attacks and had meaningful possession throughout the game. We will play with a chip on our shoulder going into the next set. I'm proud of the team's effort tonight as we hit the road for the next five games."
The Wildcats hit the road for Corpus Christi for their first on-the-road match on August 29 against Texas A&M - Corpus Christi. Make sure to stay up to date at acusports.com. Follow ACU Soccer on Instagram, X, and Facebook for important updates.
