ABILENE – Abilene Christian finished off its midweek schedule with a 9-5 win over Incarnate Word on Tuesday.
The game included seven errors and the teams combined for eight unearned runs.
The Wildcats got on the board first, scoring two in the bottom of the second on a double-play grounder by
Jack Nielsen and an RBI single by
Zandt Payne.
ACU took a 3-0 lead in the third when
Benjamin Greer scored on a passed ball. After UIW scored twice in the fourth, the Wildcats went ahead 4-2 in the bottom of the fourth on an RBI single by
Miller Ladusau.
The Cats went up 6-3 in the seventh on an RBI single by Greer and a sacrifice fly by
Gino D'Alessio.
The Cardinals made it a 6-4 game in the top of the eighth but ACU got three in the home half of the inning, using a two-run double by Payne and an RBI single by Greer.
Blaine Palmer got the win in relief.
ACU had 10 hits, led by Payne with three and Greer with two. Ladusau,
Garrett Williams,
Reese Borho,
Aaron Staehely and Nielsen also contributed to the hit total.
The Cats travel to Grand Canyon for a crucial Western Athletic Conference series in Phoenix this weekend.
