ABILENE – Abilene Christian kept its hopes of a No. 2 seed in the Western Athletic Conference Tournament alive on Friday with a 9-5 win over Seattle.
The Wildcats moved to 17-12 and caught California Baptist in third in the WAC standings. Utah Valley lost in extra innings on Friday and has a one-game lead in second place.
ACU scored four runs in the second inning on a bases-loaded walk by
Miller Ladusau, a two-run single by
Benjamin Greer and an RBI single by
Gino D'Alessio.
Maddox Miesse scored on an error and
Holden Rook scored on a throw down to second base for two unearned ACU runs in the third.
Greer scored from third on a pick-off play at first in the fourth.
ACU scored its final runs in the sixth on an RBI double by Ladusau and a sacrifice fly by D'Alessio.
The Cats had 10 hits in the game, led by Greer and D'Alessio with two each. Ladusau,
Garrett Williams,
Reese Borho, Miesse, Rook and
Zandt Payne had one apiece.
Dash Albus got the win in relief and
Blaine Palmer got a save.
The Cats and Redhawks meet for the regular season finale at 1:05 p.m. on Saturday.
