Cats Clinch Second Seed with Win

ABILENE – Abilene Christian won its regular season finale and claimed the No. 2 seed in the WAC Tournament with an 11-10 win over Seattle on Saturday.
 
Garrett Williams got the game-winning two-run double in the eighth inning and the game was called minutes later after an established drop-dead end time was reached to accommodate SU's travel schedule.
 
As the second seed, ACU gets a bye to the double-elimination round and will play Thursday in Mesa, Arizona.
 
Before the game, ACU honored 15 seniors and graduates playing in their last home game: Gino D'Alessio, Benjamin Greer, Williams, Miller Ladusau, Austin Glaze, Aaron Staehely, Bobby Serfass, Nick Meyer, Rolando De La Cruz, Jack Nielsen, Eric Martin, Brett Garcia, Chandler Freeman, Luke Krkovski and Blake Anderson.
 
After falling behind 3-0, ACU scored four runs in the third inning on an RBI double by Williams and a three-run home run by Maddox Miesse.

Ladusau added a solo home run for a 5-3 lead in the fifth inning.
 
Seattle put six runs on the board in the sixth inning to take a 9-5 lead.
 
The Wildcats answered with three in the home half of the sixth on a two-run double by Ladusau and an RBI single by Benjamin Greer.

DJ Van Atten used an RBI single to tie the game at 9-9 in the seventh.
 
The Redhawks scored in the top of the eighth to take a 10-9 lead but Williams came through with the two-run game-winner.
 
Brett Garcia pitched the last two outs in the top of the eighth to get the win, striking out two batters. Blaine Palmer also had 1.1 scoreless innings in relief.
 
The Cats had 16 hits with Greer getting a double and three singles to lead the way. Ladusau had a home run and a double among his three hits, Miesse had a home run and two singles and Williams had two doubles and a single.
 
Staehely had two singles, Zandt Payne had a double and Van Atten added a single.
 
The Cats finished the regular season at 32-23 overall and 18-12 in the WAC.
