KINDER, La. – Abilene Christian challenged the leaders but finished third at the Koasati Pines Intercollegiate on Tuesday.
A final round of 288 in some tough playing conditions found the Wildcats 10 strokes behind champion Southeastern Louisiana. ACU finished eight under par as a team.
"We made a run today in the windy conditions but ran out of steam in the end," said ACU Head Coach Tom Shaw. "Happy for Jaime Lewis who earned his first top-10 as a starting player for us. As a team, we need to shore up some little things but are otherwise trending in the right direction."
Lewis was consistent throughout, shooting three rounds of 71 for a three-under 213. He tied for eighth with teammate Grégoire Hoyeau, who went 70-69-74. Lewis birdied holes 4, 6, 16 and 18 on Tuesday to bring his total to 12. Hoyeau matched Lewis for the team birdie lead at 12 after going one-under on holes 4 and 17 on Tuesday.
