PROVO, Utah – Abilene Christian had a six-run sixth inning but came up short in an 8-6 loss at Brigham Young on Monday.
BYU scored twice in the second and three runs each in the fourth and fifth innings to take an 8-0 lead.
ACU tied together five-run scoring hits in the sixth inning but couldn't get the equalizer.
Maddox Miesse singled home
Zion Stephens to get the zero off the scoreboard.
DJ Van Atten,
Zandt Payne and
Miller Ladusau all added RBI singles and
Benjamin Greer plated two runs with a base hit for the final margin.
The Wildcats had 10 hits in the game, led by Ladusau and Payne with two each. Greer,
Garrett Williams,
Reese Borho, Miesse,
Caden Matlon and Van Atten added one apiece.
Chandler Freeman (2.1 innings) and
Dash Albus (one inning) held the Cougars off the scoreboard from the sixth inning on.
The Cats come home this weekend for a three-game set with UT Rio Grande Valley. Weather-permitting the three-game series begins at 6:05 p.m. on Friday.
