ABILENE – Abilene Christian gave up two big home runs and dropped a 7-3 decision to Utah Valley on Thursday in the first installment of a three-game series.
The Trailblazers had a two-run home run in the first and a grand slam in the seventh.
ACU trailed 2-0 going into the bottom of the first but
Miller Ladusau and
Gino D'Alessio tied it with back-to-back home runs in its first at-bat.
Garrett Williams singled, stole second and third and scored on an RBI single by
Bobby Serfass for a 3-2 lead.
That score held up until Jayden Smith's grand slam in the seventh.
ACU had eight hits in the game, led by Williams with two.
Reese Borho contributed a double and
DJ Van Atten and
Benjamin Greer added a single each.
Brett Garcia took the loss in relief.
Blaine Palmer pitched a hitless 1.1 innings to finish up for ACU.
The teams meet for game two of the series at 6:05 p.m. on Friday.
